Determination = Success

Gracie has learned to adapt so well with her cast on, that it just amazes us. I took some pictures of her learning how to stand up and then finally walking. I can't believe that she is walking just as well as she would if she didn't have the cast. The doctor did say that when the cast comes off, which is tomorrow, yay, that Gracie will have a slight limp, just until she gets used to walking with two regular feet.

Almost up

Hang in there

Yay, she did it!!!

Just another daily stroll around the house

Hmmm, should I go for the dog food?

So happy to be walking

One Sick Puppy

I guess the saying is true, about raining and pouring because our poor doggy Wrigley went through some trauma this week too. He went in the Friday before last to get a mass removed. All was fine until he decided to lick the wound. He licked so hard, that some of his stitches came out. Jerry had to take Wrigley back to the vet, where they put some staples in. Think that deterred the dog? Nope, those came open too so Wrigley had to go back under and be stitched back up. The poor guy now has to wear a collar, a big bandage around his chest and leg, and a t-shirt just to make sure he doesn't get to his boo boo. Of course now, he wants attention all the time so at night, he has to sleep on our bed right between Jerry and I! Can you imagine sleeping with a 90 pound dog at your feet? Neither can we, but we do. Thank god, Jerry and I have a king size bed! I am happy to report, that both Gracie and Wrigley are on the mend.

Jerry and I worked and worked and we finally figured out how to re-do my blog. I am still learning in Photoshop and hopefully will get better but am proud of myself for creating this header all by myself. I was going to pay someone to re-create my blog, but Jerry being the cheaps..... I mean the frugal person that he is, said "let's do this ourselves" so, several hours, yells, and some frustration later, I can officially say we did it!!!!

Pretty in Pink

Here are pictures of my beautiful, brave girl and her cast.

Ignore the mess in the background as that is her closet and all her shoes that she loves to play with.

Gracie couldn't decide on which stuffed animal she liked better so she held them both!

My Sweet Little Baby

Yesterday, Gracie and I were at the park. We had met another China mom, Karen and her daughter Kailee there. We were having lots of fun and decided to go down the slide. Gracie was on my lap and when we got to the bottom, somehow the rubber sole of her shoe, got stuck on the slide and her foot ended up twisted underneath her. She started crying hysterically but I thought it was because her hat had scraped her chin a little bit. She finally stopped but would not let me put her down or leave my lap. I could not figure out what was going on so I tried again to put her down to see if she wanted to walk. That's when I noticed, that she was favoring one of her feet. I took both shoes and socks off because I wasn't sure what ankle hurt (at the time I thought it was her ankle) but she didn't cry or wince as I felt around.

We ended up taking her to the doctor, who referred us for an x-ray. It turns out, Gracie has a fracture in her Tibia in the left leg. We went to the orthopedic Dr. today and he said that this type of fracture is quite common and it usually happens on a slide. He went on to say that Gracie needed to have a full leg cast to ease the pain and to prevent any further trauma to the leg. We got to pick a color out and naturally I decided on pink. So now, my little girl has a bright pink cast on her left leg and it needs to stay on for about 3 weeks. She can't walk with it although the doctor said she could but it's almost impossible and it also can't get wet which means sponge baths from daddy. I feel so badly for her and hope that she heals quickly. Throughout the whole thing, Gracie has been her happy, go-lucky self and I am so proud of her. Tomorrow, I will post a picture of my little trooper.

Gracie learned how to walk about a month and a half ago. I snapped these shots of her when she had her wobbly sea legs and looked like a drunken sailor! She's so cute because she looks likes she is concentrating so hard and her arms are way up in the air. Of course now she is a pro at walking and does so everywhere. She doesn't crawl anymore because she has now learned to push herself up instead of holding onto an object such as a chair or table. Anyway, after I took these pictures, Gracie started hamming it up for the camera. She opened her mouth at me and then started tilting her head way over to the side. I snapped away and got the pictures below. She is really growing into her personality and becoming quite the clown!

This is where she started hamming

Teddy Teddy all Around!!!

Yesterday, we went to visit Uncle Frank at the place where he volunteers. He gave Gracie a teddy bear that she absolutely loves!!! From the moment she got it, she would not put it down as you can see in the pictures below. I think I'm allergic to it because I have already had half a Benadryl today and a Claritin but there is no way that I am going to take the bear away from Gracie since she loves it so much. Oh yeah, I'm actually following through with one of my New Year's resolutions and am posting more often. Yay!!!!

I love how Gracie squinches up her eyes when she hugs her bear

She looks so proud here posing with her bear

Gracie looks like she is strangling her bear when she carries it but she really isn't, that's how she carries everything!!

If you look closely, Wrigley is just about to lick the bear because he loves it too! :)

Happy New Year!!!

I hope everyone had a great New Year's Eve. Jerry and I fell asleep just before the stroke of midnight so we missed ringing in the new year. I took a lot of pictures last year and the ones that didn't quite make it to my blog, I created a slideshow. I can't believe how many firsts we have had with Gracie and there are so many more I am looking forward to. Love and peace to all, enjoy the show.
