Happy Memorial Day!

We went to a pool party today at my brother and sister-in-law's house. I use the term pool loosely considering that we didn't even step a toe into it. Lately, the weather has been really weird and crappy. We went from 100* weather last weekend to cold and rainy this weekend and in the 60s. Regardless, we still had a fun and spent our time next to a pool so I guess that still counts. Thank you Uncle Pete and Debbie for having us over and doing a great job with the party.

PS~ Thank you to all who have served our country and have lost their lives. You are in my prayers today.

Gracie and Aunt Debbie

This little puppy was lost and hung out with us for a while. Gracie liked feeing her tortilla chips

Gracie couldn't get enough of the Chex Mix

David and Uncle Frank kicking back with grandma

What would a party be without Uncle Pete playing with Gracie

The beautiful pool that we didn't get to go in

The crappy weather and clouds that hovered all day

Gracie hiding under Daddy's hat

The two elders, I mean grandma and grandpa making use of the pool towels

Since Gracie didn't get to use her boat that Uncle Pete and Aunt Debbie bought her in the pool, the living room was the next best thing!

First Haircut

A couple of weeks ago, Jerry and I took Gracie for her first haircut. I know you are probably thinking what hair but it was actually getting pretty long in the back and starting to look scraggly as my mom would have said. I didn't want to get Gracie's hair cut because it took almost a year to get to where it was but my friend Karen who cuts hair, said that Gracie's hair would look really cute if I evened out the back. Jerry and I took Gracie to a place that cuts kid's hair and Gracie did a great job. She didn't cry and sat really still when the lady was cutting her hair. The place even gave us a first haircut certificate and a little pouch filled with some of Gracie's hair. Gracie's favorite part was the balloon they gave her at the end. And guess what, Karen was right, Gracie's hair looks really cute now!

PS~ It took forever for me to post this because the first two pictures were held hostage in my phone until I finally called the wireless company who were very nice and proceeded to tell me how to get my pictures out of jail.

I look drunk in this picture so just focus on Gracie! :)

Donate to Earthquake Relief Fund

As you all know, there was a devastating earthquake that happened in China. Today, I received an email from my agency, CCAI. They are asking for donations that will go directly to China. I am posting the email, along with a link if anyone is interested in contributing. Please say a prayer for all of those that have been affected by this tragic event.

Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan Province has resulted in the tragic death of at least 15,000 people and the collapse and damage of more than 4.5 million buildings and houses. In response, Chinese Children Charities/CCAI has established Earthquake Relief Fund (ERF) to help orphanages purchase tents, food, diapers, medicine, clothes, and post-quake building repairs and construction.

Chinese Children Charities is a 501©3charitable organization. 100% of your tax deductible contribution will go to help the orphans in China. Please go to to make an on-line contribution, or mail your donation check to Chinese Children Charities, earmarked “ERF”

Happy Day

I'll have to admit, I never liked the word mother. To me the word sounds cold or something a teenage girl would say to their mom, when they couldn't believe that their parent could say or do something. Kind of like "Oh mother, give me a break." I used to say that to my mom! I think the word mom or mommy sounds so much sweeter. I also used to dread this holiday, when I was going through my infertility treatments and we were getting negative after negative. It was especially hard because my own mom had passed away and I remember looking around when we would go out to eat, thinking why is it fair that only a mom should be allowed to get a holiday all to themselves. I understand that it's a "Hallmark" holiday, but still the pain did not hurt any less.

Last night, we went out for a steak dinner to celebrate the holiday. It was a good meal, and an opportunity to spend precious time with my family. I didn't think of it as my time, but a time to enjoy all I have around me, especially my precious daughter. Today, grandma June is going to watch Gracie for us while Jerry and I sneak off to the movies. Jerry was also very sweet this morning and took Gracie with him to get coffee. He even dressed her himself while I stayed in bed for a couple of extra minutes.

I want to say, that whether or not you are waiting for your child to come home from China or another country, choose not to have any children or are a mom, take the time to celebrate you. Go out and do something for yourself whether it be a massage or just sitting in a chair, reading a book. I believe that this day is for all woman because we all work hard and deserve to be pampered once in a while, even if it is only for one day and I hope everyone has a Happy Woman's Day.

Happy Referral Day!

One year ago today, Jerry and I received our referral for our beautiful daughter Gracie. I could not believe that after all of our waiting, we would finally be seeing our daughter's face for the first time. When I looked at Gracie's picture, I immediately fell in love. I printed out the picture and carried it around everywhere, showing and telling everyone all about Gracie, even the dentist! Both of our families were so excited and could not wait to meet Gracie. I remember looking at Gracie's little face in disbelief, hardly believing that she was ours. At night, I put the picture on my nightstand so it could be the last thing I went to bed looking at (aside from Jerry's mug) and the first thing I would see in the morning. As I watched television those many nights, waiting to travel to China, I would glance at Gracie's picture many times and wonder what she would be like. In the year since I first set eyes on Gracie's picture, I often think back to that very first time that I saw my beautiful daughter and now, while she is sleeping I look on the monitor and see how much she has changed but yet how she still is the same. I love Gracie very much and know that it is I, not she who is the luckiest person in the world.

Referral Call

For those interested, here is the video of our referral call. It's long, about 8 minutes and probably not that exciting but it was just like giving birth to us, minus the yucky parts. :) I notice that throughout the phone call, I say okay a lot! I also touch my hair quite a bit, but I think it was the nerves.
