Summer Fun

For the last couple of weeks, it has been super hot here. Last year, Jerry and I bought Gracie a pool but she was a little to young for it. Since it's been so warm, we decided to break out the pool. I had also bought Gracie an Elmo sprinkler from Walmart. She loves the water and loved both her pool and the sprinkler. Jerry and I also enjoyed the pool because we would put it in the shade and kick back on our beach chairs with our feet in the water. A perfect way to stay cool. Next week for the 4th, we are going to my brother's house for a pool party and hopefully the weather will cooperate so Gracie can go into the big pool. The pictures are a bit small so if you want to see detail, click on them to enlarge.

Happy Dad's Day

I am a day late in posting this but I haven't felt like posting much lately and I've been pretty busy.

Yesterday, was a good Father's Day for Jerry. Last year on Dad's Day, we were two days away from getting Gracie. It's hard to believe it's almost been a year. When we were waiting for Gracie, Jerry didn't express his emotion as much as I did. Whenever I asked him about children, he told me he wanted them very badly and that was pretty much the extent of it. I was the one who vented all my frustrations, and checked the message boards constantly, while he remained calm. I remember the day we got Gracie's referral, Jerry who is a computer geek, could not remember how to save a picture to the computer! He kept asking me over and over, how do you do it, even though he had done it a thousand times. In China, on Gracie's gotcha day, he was very nervous and when he finally held Gracie alone for that first moment, he ended up breaking down and bawling his head off. I'm sure he doesn't want that story told but hey, he never reads this blog that much anyway!

Jerry is a very good daddy to Gracie and she loves him very much. Gracie always yells out daddy, daddy, every morning and I have to tell her that he is at work. On the days he is home and he hears her up, he shouts from our room to hers, I love you Gracie and she shouts right back, not saying those words but it sure sounds like it. After I go and get her from her room, she runs into ours yelling daddy, daddy and wants me to help her onto the bed so she can see him. Jerry is awesome and I feel very lucky to have him. Anyway, I hope everyone had a good Dad's Day, whether you are one or not.

Not sure if you can read her shirt, but it says my daddy rocks because he does of course!

Gym Class

On Fridays I have been taking Gracie to a mommy and me gym class through a city program. It has been a lot of fun and Gracie has really grown and learned so much. My friend Karen brings her daughter Kailee too and the girls get to have some play time together. This past Friday, was Gracie's test and graduation day. It's not a real test of course, the teacher just had the kids go through some of the things that they learned while in class and at the end, there was a party with lots of food! Throughout class, Gracie kept going over to the food table and trying to climb on the chairs to grab some of the brownies! Gracie definitely knows about the important things in life, like chocolate!

Also, this past Wednesday, I took Gracie to get evaluated because I was worried about her speech. It was free and done through the county and the service was fantastic. There was a speech, physical, and occupational therapist there. They played with Gracie and asked me different kinds of questions. At the end, they let me know how Gracie is doing and if she qualifed for any services, such as speech. They said that Gracie is doing fantastic and didn't qualify for services which is a good thing. The therapists told me that Gracie is very bright and as a good memory. She is above average on her gross motor skills which is jumping etc. (I attribute that to gym class) and the speech therapist which is what I was worried about, said that Gracie is doing fine and progressing nicely as she is mimicking sounds, can say words, and point to things in books. Even though Gracie doesn't say the ending sound of a lot of words, that is normal for this age. They did say that Gracie was a little bit behind in her fine motor skills which is doing things such as grasping, putting a peg in a hole etc. but they said Gracie will catch up quickly. So now, all my family and friends can say a big I told you so because they all kept telling me not to worry. But hey, I'm a mom and part of my job is to worry, at least just a little bit . :)

Here is Gracie, anxious to get her stamp. The teacher tells all the kids to come to the rug and it's very cute because all of the kids run over and find a spot. Gracie arrived just a little bit early as she loves getting her stamp.

Graduation day!!

Proud of her certificate

Of course cookies, cheese, and oranges go together

Birthdays Galore

This past weekend was super busy. On Saturday, Gracie went to her first birthday party (other than her own), that evening, my dad took us to his favorite restaurant to celebrate he and my mom's anniversary (she is deceased) and grandma's and Aunt Debbie's birthday. On Sunday, we took Gracie up to L.A. to see Elmo live. Gracie loved the show but pooped out just after intermission so we ended up leaving early. By Sunday night, we were all exhausted and slept very well that night.

The children's birthday party was held at a museum just for kids

Gracie liked trying on all the different hats they had but was drawn to this straw hat because that's what daddy wears at home

Daddy put on a puppet show, just for Gracie

I can't tell who had more fun, Gracie or Jerry

Mmmm, fake bananas and brownies

I find this picture pretty scary actually!

Gracie's so cute in her party hat

Happy Birthday Connor

Like I said, who had more fun!?

Later that night, Aunt Debbie received her official AARP membership, courtesy of me (she turned 50)

Did I mention that Gracie loves spaghetti

Where's Gracie?

Where's Uncle Pete?

Happy Birthday June and Debbie!
