Japanese and Italian Mixed into One

Last weekend, we celebrated Dad's birthday on Saturday and on Sunday, went out to dinner with Karen, Kailee, and Bob. Dinner for Dad's birthday was at his favorite italian restaurant, Mama Cozzas. We are all tired of the food but it's the only place around where Dad can get free anisette which is a liquor that tastes like liquorice. None of us really like anisette except for Dad so we all get the freebie they give and he puts it in his coffee. Plus, it's the only restaurant that Dad likes for italian food and that's saying a lot considering my grandparents are from Italy!

On Sunday, Karen called and asked if we wanted to go eat Japanese food with she and her family. We jumped at the chance and went to Kobe. We sat at the teppan bar and it was great. The girls were mesmorized by watching the chef cook in front of them and Kailee, Karen's daughter was a whiz at the chopsticks. I have to admit, Kailee is better than I am at using them. The food was fantastic and I even got a video of the chef firing up the grill.

Poor Jerry, had to take a self portrait

Awww, too cute. Pete isn't really a USC fan, but he owns his own business welding and he did some work for USC in their restaurant so I had to give him this hat and tease him about it.

Well, it's that time of year again. The time that our Disneyland passes are valid again and we get to go to one of my favorite places. Last week, we met Karen, Kailee, Christy, Mia, Christy's two sons, nieces, and sister for a fun time at D-Land. I didn't take very many pictures, not sure what I was thinking but I did manage to capture one or two and some video. It was really hot and crowded but we managed to sweat it out and have a good time anyway.

We decided that this time around, we were going to stay for the fireworks show and when it was a few minutes before the show, the great planners that we are, decided to find a seat. The place was packed and we walked in a circle and there wasn't a spot to be had. Christy stopped and asked one of the workers a question and I very loudly, in front of another worker, said to Karen, "What happened to the good old days when one could just stand in any spot and watch the fireworks?". The nice worker who I didn't know at the time but was a fireworks lead, asked if we were lost. We told him no but that we couldn't find a spot. He said follow me and took us to the most sweetest, prime viewing spot that I have ever been to, right in front of the magic castle. Christy couldn't believe it and kept asking the guy if he was serious that we could watch the fireworks from that spot!

I felt kind of funny because I could see people staring at us, wondering who we knew and I really felt like I should have tipped the guy $100 because that's how great this location was. Anyway, Gracie ended up being afraid of the fireworks and fell asleep towards the end, but mommy sure enjoyed them!

PS~ Apparently, this is a special fireworks show, in honor of D-Land's 50th birthday.

Love this picture of Mia and Gracie waiting patiently for the teacups, Gracie's favorite ride.

During the fireworks show, the castle turned different colors, depending upon the theme. If you look closely, you can see the castle has stripes on it.

Then she's not

This is my lasting posting of pictures from my Bahama's trip. It's hard to believe that we were only there for 5 full days. I do have a tendancy to take way too many pictures. Poor Gracie is so tired of me telling her to say cheese that she doesn't even want her picture taken anymore!

PS~ For some reason, everytime I create something in Photoshop for my blog, it always seems to turn out small, even though it looks bigger in Photoshop. I don't know if it's blogger re-adjusting the image but to see it larger, just click on the picture itself.

More Bahamas

I am almost done with my Bahama's picture. I am getting tired of posting them and I'm sure you are done looking. When we went to the Atlantis, they had tons of waterslides. Unforuntately, Gracie was too young to go on them but there were a few that she was allowed on. In the first set of pictures, this was a "bigger" slide that Gracie was allowed on. There was a series of two slides. One going into a smaller pool and then this one which went into the big pool. Jerry and I would take turns going down the slide with Gracie. She absolutely loved it and would point and say "side", "side". Jerry and I were laughing, because in the very last picture, it looks like Gracie is alone in the pool as I am underneath the water, trying to hold Gracie up!

In these pictures, Gracie has on an outfit that I bought her in Nassau. I couldn't resist buying it as it looked really cute on the hanger, and cuter on her. It has the words Bahamas printed on the outfit and she looks just like an island girl. In the pictures, Gracie is holding a Twizzler. She somehow had gotten into them and refused to let it go when I tried to take it away. That is why she is holding the candy in most of the pictures.

Silly me, I tried to take away the Twizzler

Happy Birthday Dad

Today is my dad's 75th birthday!! I have learned so much from him over the years and am very proud. He is a wonderful grandpa to Gracie and even learned how to change her diapers, even though he hadn't changed one in over 30 years. She always has so much fun when we go to the stores with him or he babysits. Below, is a picture of him from when he was younger. I am not sure of his exact age in the picture but looking at it, I can see so much of myself in him when I was around his age. I think we have the same eyes and lips.

I feel very thankful for my dad and am grateful that he lives so close to us. He is an honest and compassionate man and I love him very much! I hope you have a wonderful birthday dad, with many more to come.

Bahamas Pictures Part 3

You're probably getting sick of our vacation pictures by now but I still have about 3 more posts worth! The pictures below are the aquarium shots. It was very cute because when Gracie saw the jellyfish in the dark, and they were all lit up, she pointed and said bubble, bubble!

Gracie and I in something called the dig. It was an underground aquarium that was set to look like the sunken Atlantis. Gracie got scared because it was dark and there were noises playing. I had to hold her most of the time and she kept saying, no, no, go.

I love the look on my face. I was telling Jerry to stop taking pictures and look at the huge ray that was swimming above us.

This picture does not do the ray justice. It's wingspan must have been literally 5 feet across. It was awesome!

Gracie refusing to look

Poor girl, she just wanted to get out of there and not look at anymore fish, sharks, turtles, rays, or anything else that lived in salt water.

Finally, a smile for daddy. Do you notice the drool from her mouth? We think Gracie is teething again, preparing for her 2 year molars.

Yep, I am studying the map intently. That place was huge!!

This is the shark tank. I don't know if you noticed it but if you look in the background, there is a clear square tube going through the tank. There is a tube ride that at the end of it, takes you slowly through this tank and you can see the sharks swimming all around you. It goes super slow and I kept paddling to book my way out of there because hey, I saw shark week on Discovery Channel.

I like the effect of the fish in the background in this picture that I took of Jerry.

Bahamas Pictures Part 2

I forgot to mention in my previous post, that I taught Gracie how to blow bubbles in the pool. Towards the end of the trip, she was actually sticking her face in the water by herself and blowing bubbles, without inhaling any water. I think she is going to be a great swimmer.

Kickn' back by the pool

Believe it or not, this is not the pool we are in but the ocean. Gosh, I miss that water!

Pooped after a morning of swimming. Before she fell asleep, she was playing with her belly button and then passed out, that is why her shirt is up.
