Thankful Thursday a Little Early

I normally don't partake in Thankful Thursday but as I was making dinner tonight, I happened to glance out the sliding glass door window and what I saw, was simply beautiful. My family. Jerry sitting on the seesaw pushing Kyle in his swing, Gracie running up the stairs getting ready to go down the slide and Wrigley, our dog running around like a maniac. Everyone looked so happy and I stopped for a moment, and thanked God for blessing me with more than I could have ever imagined.

When I complain that the house is too noisy, there was a time when it was silent.

When I complain about not getting enough sleep, there was a time when I didn't have a little body snuggled up next to me.

When I complain that I don't have any time to myself, there was a time when I didn't hear those sweet words of mommy.

There was once a time when my heart was broken and now it's healed.

I want to end my post with the prayer that Gracie said at dinner tonight.

"Thank you God for giving us the food to eat. Thank you God for Kyle and for Kyle not eating his fingers and thank you God for Knott's Berry Farm. Amen".

I don't think I could have said it better myself.

First Day of Preschool

Last Thursday was Gracie's first day of preschool at her new school. Last year, she went to our church preschool. I decided to change schools because our church is about 20 minutes away by freeway and her new school is literally 5 minutes from us. I kept worrying that we were going to have the "big" one (earthquake) and I wouldn't be able to reach her quickly. It was a difficult decision but the right one as she really likes her new school and since it's a public one, I am hoping that she will go to kindergarten there next year and be with the same group of children. On her first day though, when I asked Gracie how her new school was, she said great but they didn't go to church!

Gracie's first day was very emotional for me. I kept thinking about how my baby is growing up and next year, she will be off to full-day kindergarten. I still have my little guy at home to which I am grateful for but then my mind started wandering (gee, is never does that) and I thought that pretty soon, he will be off to school too! I was also emotional because there was a little Vietnamese boy in Gracie's classroom that kept crying and crying. His parents where nowhere to be seen. The teacher then asked one of the other parents if they spoke Vietnamese because this little boy did not understand or speak any English. It was so very sad and I said a prayer for him. I could not imagine how scared he must have been.

Walking into Gracie's classroom every day has really made me miss teaching too. I miss seeing the excitement on the kid's faces when they learn a new song, the lightbulb that goes off when they are first learning to read or the big hugs they used to give me by wrapping their little arms around my legs. But you know what? I get to be a mom and watch my children grow everyday and when my kids wrap their little arms around my legs and Gracie tells me that she loves me, I know I am exactly where I am supposed to be, at home with Gracie and Kyle.

Bloggy Break

I didn’t start off taking a bloggy break for the summer but somehow, it just ended up that way. It all started when we went on vacation, wayyyy back in July and our computer decided to crash when we got back and I lost a bunch of pictures on the computer and it just continued from there. I did have people subtly, and not so subtly ask me, when I was going to start blogging again but the longer I took off, the more comfortable it became. We did a lot this summer from the beach, water parks, etc. so in my defense, we were pretty busy. I do have a whole bunch of pictures that I need to post although, I have to admit, a lot not mine as I decided to take a camera break too. I will try to blog in order of the way summer went but may jump from here to there and back again. I do want to say thank you to all my friends who have allowed me to steal, borrow their pictures.

In July, we went camping to Lake Tahoe for the 4th of July. Tahoe is one of our favorite places to visit and this was Kyle's first camping trip. The drive there was rather long and we got horrible gas mileage in the "beast", around 7 miles per gallon but Jerry and I have always wanted to go to Tahoe for the 4th and it didn't disappoint. The weather was beautiful, actually warmer than here and I didn't have access to the Internet for a whole week, nor did I watch tv and it was actually pretty nice! I got to read 4 books, something I never get to do here, so I feel as though I accomplished something. Jerry perfected the making of the S'more by the end of the trip and all of us had a blast and we can't wait to go camping again.

When you are coming down the mountain, you get a gorgeous glimpse of Lake Tahoe in the background

Gracie the princess that she is, insisted on wearing her tutu, even though we were camping

Yummy S'mores. If you've never had one, you are definitely missing out!

First S'more of the trip, with many more to come
