My Little Graduate

Today was Gracie's last day of kinder. She is officially a first grader!!! I was talking to my friend G. about how I am okay with Gracie graduating and moving on to first grade and am wondering if it's because I used to teach kinder, so kind of knew what to expect or perhaps it's because I know that I still have Kyle who will be in kinder in a couple of years?? I'm not sure but I do know, that it feels like when I was a kid and all giddy, ready for the summer to begin.

Today at Gracie's graduation, it was very cute because Gracie's class nominated each other for the awards that they were going to get. One student got jump rope master and another best smile. When it was Gracie's turn, I was anxious to see what her classmates voted for her to receive. Well, she got chosen for the award of sweetest and that just melted my heart! Gracie is one of the sweetest kids I know and it's nice that her classmates think so too!

After graduation, my friend Karen and I, took our graduates out to a nice lunch. It's neat, because both Gracie and Kailee are adopted from China and both girls go to the same school and are in the same class. We are lucky to have them live so close to us and the girls share that special bond.

I'm so proud of Gracie, as she had an awesome report card! She received all outstandings and above grade level in her subjects. Not bad for being the youngest in the class. :) I don't know what first grade will bring but I am excited for next year and another new beginning.

It's been a rough week. My bags look horrible but G. looks cute, so I sacrificed and posted this. =)

G. looks the same but adorable as always! The quality of the second picture is kind of funky. I had to do clean up the picture in Photshop but the lighting was so bad, that the picture just didn't turn out the greatest.

Loss of an Old Friend

We had to put our precious doggy Wrigley to sleep last Saturday. About a month ago, he was having major stomach pains in the middle of the night and we thought that his tummy was flipping. Jerry took Wrigley to the vet's, where they did an Xray and we found out that Wrigley had a cancerous tumor on his spleen. The vet told us to take Wrigley home and love him, which we did and got to for one full month. We really and truly had hoped that the vet had misdiagnosed Wrigley, as a couple of days after he got home, he was back to normal and acting like a complete puppy. We were so happy to have our Wriggy back. Turns out, it didn't last very long and last Friday morning, Wrigley had a lot of trouble getting up and so we moved him to a comfortable spot in which he stayed for the night. Jerry even slept on the couch, so Wrigley wouldn't be alone. Saturday morning came and Wrigley did struggle to get up to go outside and go potty but his back legs could barely hold him and Jerry had to help Wrigley back inside. We knew it was time to say goodbye, as Jerry and I had made a promise to ourselves that if Wrigley couldn't get up and was in pain, it would be time to let him go. Wrigley wasn't alone though as Jerry stayed in the room, while Wrigley took his last breath.

To say Wrigley was a great dog would not do him justice. He was so calm and patient with the kids. Our Wrig a boy as we liked to call him, had been with us for almost 11 years, as we had adopted him from the shelter, about a month after we moved into our house. He was with us when we went through the infertility treatments, miscarriages, deaths of family members and when we brought our kids home. Wrigley was a joy and comfort in our house and a great protector. We really lucked out that fateful day when we took a chance and adopted the dog with mange on his nose, that nobody wanted.

Jerry did a memorial video for Wrigley and some of the pictures show how patient he was with the kids. They were constantly climbing on him, dressing him up or Gracie's favorite, putting things on his head. Wrigley just sat there and let the kids do what they wanted. In one of the photos, there is black fur all over the floor. This is from the "haircut" that Gracie decided to give Wrigley one day.

We love you Wrigley and you will be forever in our hearts.

Sunlight streams through window pane onto a spot on the floor.....
then I remember,
it's where you used to lie, but now you are no more.

Our feet walk down a hall of carpet, and muted echoes sound.....
then I remember,
it's where your paws would joyously abound.

A voice is heard along the road, and up beyond the hill,
then I remember,
it can't be yours..... your golden voice is still.

But I'll take that vacant spot of floor and empty muted hall,
and lay them with the absent voice and unused dish along the wall.

I'll wrap these treasured memories in a blanket of my love,
and keep them for my best friend until we meet above.
